Conferences Galore

It's been a little more than a month since my last post, and during that time, I've spoken at three different conferences (Webstock, ConFoo, and SXSW) in three different countries (New Zealand, Canada, and the US). I'm taking a break for a few months to focus on our first Analog project before heading to Amsterdam in June for DPC.

My talks lately have followed a new theme of encouraging developers to take a step back and consider the big picture, much like designers do when considering the user experience instead of just focusing on aesthetics. We should be adopting a similarly broad perspective about our work. I hope to blog more about this later, because I think there's an important shift that needs to happen.

I won't bore you with details of all of my conference experiences, but I do want to highlight Webstock. The Webstock hangover has yet to wear off. When Nat called it the best conference ever, he was right. Not only was he right, I can't think of any conference that comes close to matching the quality of Webstock. In Mike Brown's own words, "People love things that are made with love." Webstock is made with love, and I hope every other conference is taking notes.

For me, speaking at Webstock was a surreal experience. All of the other speakers were amazing; it was an honor to be among them. I am especially grateful to those who characterized my talk as seriously amazing or consider it their favorite. Thanks a bunch! :-)

Line breaks are converted to paragraphs. Also use:

  • text1
  • text
  •

text

  •
2 <?php if ($foo) { $foo = TRUE; } ?>

  1. Note:
can be used inline (e.g. in paragraphs) or in a block as shown. Include whitespace and newlines in blocks.
