PHP Lightning Talks

If you're attending OSCON this year, be sure to check out the PHP Lightning Talks being hosted by George and Laura:

Lightning talks are a collection of 5-minute talks given by you, members of the PHP community. A mainstay of the Perl side of the convention, lightning talks are an exciting format and an excellent place to showcase new ideas, ask questions, or rant.

In the meantime, you can learn all about lightning talks, read some tips on giving lightning talks, or submit a PHP lightning talk proposal of your own to lightningtalks-oscon2006@omniti.com. Proposals are being accepted until 21 Jul 2006.

The lightning talks at Melbourne's OSDC (http://www.osdc.com.au/) last year were a great, fun mix of topics. They covered everything from the OSI 7 Layer model (a challenge attempt to make it interesting that required whipped cream as a prop), a well received talk "How to do business with Americans", a poem by Audrey Tang, right through to technical topics like JSAN and also some practical uses of technology like an overview of the webcams in the Australian Antarctic Territory.

So, for OSCON, put your name down and introduce the audience to what you do and how your view PHP.

Style Guide

Line breaks are converted to paragraphs. Also use:

  • <a href="" title="">text</a>1
  • <em>text</em>
  • <blockquote><p>text</p></blockquote>
  • <code>2  <?php  if ($foo) {      $foo = TRUE;  }  ?></code>
  1. Note: <code> can be used inline (e.g. in paragraphs) or in a block as shown. Include whitespace and newlines in blocks.
