My Google?

Google is now redirecting users to My Google (or "Personal Home" or whatever they call it) if you happen to be logged in. I'm not a big fan of this behavior, but there's a link at the top to return to Classic Home, and this preference is persistent. It's still a bold move for a site that has a solid reputation for simplicity.

If you Add Content and choose Create a Section, you can search for content to add to your personal home. I was happy to see my blog listed for php security:

I personally like My Google. I rarely go there because I use the search bar, but it is a very cool and usefull site.

I, too, like the Personalized Home. It definitely has some possibilities. I wouldn't mind a complete Google RSS Reader. That would be an interesting app...

I'm sure opinions are going to be mixed. What surprises me is how aggressively they decided to promote it.

I think that Google is going a bit too far. I like the idea of personalized portal but I am also afraid to open my fridge because I may see a Google Tomato Soup there. :) Google provide us with excellent search results, but I do not like to see only one company logotype while using my PC... hmmm maybe a Google PC? It is the same as Microsoft, but right now most people believes that Google are the good guys and MS are the bad guys. It is only a matter of time (read: money). Or maybe I am just overreacting.

Style Guide

Line breaks are converted to paragraphs. Also use:

  • <a href="" title="">text</a>1
  • <em>text</em>
  • <blockquote><p>text</p></blockquote>
  • <code>2  <?php  if ($foo) {      $foo = TRUE;  }  ?></code>
  1. Note: <code> can be used inline (e.g. in paragraphs) or in a block as shown. Include whitespace and newlines in blocks.
