Typically, if you need to provide instructions on how to use something, you should instead invest more into the usability of it.

This is something I strongly agree with, and have tried to impress upon anyone who would listen since my university days... and not just as a way of avoiding doc writing, as I'm sure many clients thought :)

Thankfully the idea seems to be gaining increasing acceptance in the web world at least. Great post Davey.
